This book explores the lives of private contemporary art collectors in totalitarian Czechoslovakia. It shows how a new middle class, educated and critical of the regime, formed informal communities, stayed in touch with cultural life behind the Iron Curtain, and built unique collections that today reflect the ambivalence of the second half of the 20th century.
