Mařka is an artist’s book about the friendship of deaf-mute Mařka and a little girl, today a renowned painter and illustrator Adéla Marie Jirků. Mařka spent her life herding sheep in Wallachia, but thanks to Adéla, she discovered wax crayons in her later years and began creating art brut, including cephalopods. As an adult, Adéla felt compelled to capture Mařka’s pure world, realizing that her childhood had been exceptional, few people are lucky enough to have their own Mařka.
