ABOUT BOOK SPACE
Welcome to the inclusive design space that connects book and furniture design together with the universal value of reading in our modern life. The space is created to inspire readers of all ages to be absorbed by beautiful books, bringing a well-known Czech book-binding craftsmanship to the center stage.
The BOOK SPACE travelling installation was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Most Beautiful Czech Books competition. It builds on the Czech passion for reading and highlights the central role libraries play in European societies.
The Belgian curator and interior designer Nicole Brock, the winner of the open call published by MAD Brussels, brought the idea to life.
The living installation’s central structure, made from upcycled paper by Studio PLAYFORM, is actually a large bookend, also available in regular sizes in the BOOK SPACE (designed by Mikolášková & Drobná).
Beautiful books deserve beautiful bookshelves – here provided by Monotropa, and of course, a cozy place to snuggle with a book: a tufted rug by Masopust or a cushy bench designed by Lexová & Smetana (produced by Polstrin).
The exhibited books were carefully selected by the award’s secretary, Veronika Bendová, to represent The Most Beautiful Czech Books 2019 – 2024 editions. Museum of Literature, the award’s organizer, is among our esteemed partners.
