Rooms of Their Owns, Jana Poncarová, Wo-men, 2023, 180 pages, Photography: D. Pepe
The book features twelve interviews with Czech women writers from different generations, genres, and life experiences. All share a strong drive to write despite challenges such as motherhood, caregiving, or limited conditions for creative work. The publication reflects Virginia Woolf’s concept of the “own room” , the personal space, time, and resources needed to create, and explores how the situation of Czech women writers has evolved nearly a century after Woolf’s essay.
